Roots Health Clinic: Chiropractic Care in Prague

Modern chiropractic medicine stems from standardization efforts made in the United States in the 19th century, but an emphasis on spinal health can be found in records throughout ancient China and Greece. Despite their long history, the use of techniques like chiropractic or acupuncture are often unfairly shrouded in mystery. While most people are open minded to using acupuncture or chiropractic in their healthcare, going to a chiropractor comes with a lot of questions. The most common questions are about the schooling required and what to expect at an appointment.

Chiropractic techniques explained

The reasoning behind chiropractic techniques is that the spine serves as the main highway for nerve fibers. Spinal health radiates outwards and affects the whole body because movements and messages from the brain travel through the spine. Needless to say, it is an important part of the body and the focus of chiropractors. Usually, appointments are done fully clothed, unless tight-fitting or restrictive clothing are hindering movement. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing like sportswear.

For expats and local Praguers looking for a chiropractor, look no further than Roots Health Clinic. Roots is almost two years old and was established in Cambridge, United Kingdom. Marcin and Ema, founders of Roots, started the practice to cater their philosophy of offering a holistic approach to health. They emphasize building a stable foundation, or roots, and utilizing the body’s own innate ability to heal itself. A recent move to Prague meant moving their business and they are eager to see attitudes surrounding chiropractic move in a positive direction.

The history and vision of Roots

Marcin’s journey into chiropractic began when he had a back injury. He was 16 and living in Canada. He was still in pain after six months of navigating the normal options provided by modern medicine. At the end of his rope, he decided to give a chiropractor a call. The chiropractor took a different approach than Marcin was used to and it helped him heal from his injuries. This experience helped him see the value of chiropractic as a healing tool that fills in the gaps that modern medicine tends to forget.

In our interview, Marcin said he would like to see chiropractic medicine become a more trusted, regular service in Czech Republic like it is in countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. A lot of people don’t know that chiropractors require 5-8 years of full time schooling. Marcin is the first chiropractor to have his education certified by the Czech Ministry of Health, a milestone that helps set Roots apart.

Just like in Marcin’s experience, sometimes a person really needs to try everything available from the medical system they are familiar with before feeling comfortable enough to branch out. It’s only when the pain gets too severe that they will try something new to them, like chiropractic or acupuncture. It is normal and part of the journey. For someone who has exhausted other options and is still in pain, a chiropractor may be the missing piece of the puzzle.

Marcin has lived in Poland, Canada, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and now the Czech Republic. He and Ema know what it is like to be expats and they operate their business in different languages: English, Czech, Polish, and some Mandarin. Expats will definitely have a comfortable experience with communication at Roots Health chiropractic clinic, which offers chiropractic care, acupuncture, and functional yoga.
